The Invitation to Silence
Updated: Aug 9, 2022
Silence is an invitation to trust deeper. A single honest sigh in the lap of Jesus is as powerful as a million eloquent words. The power lies not within the one who speaks, but within the One who hears.
"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God." Romans 8:26-27
It is all Him, all the time. We only need to gaze into the face of Jesus, where we are stirred to delight in him and in his law, given to us so that we'll flourish like the tree planted by streams of water.
I will be like the dew to Israel. Hosea 14:5
Did you know that the Holy Spirit is likened to the dew throughout scripture? He lands on us, the fading grass, when we are still and waiting. To refresh and nourish us. To impart love, comfort, and vision.
But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 41:31
Pray with Me:
Lord, the current of our own understanding can tug us into complex spaces. But you have offered us simplicity. Your strong arms take our heavy burdens. Even the simple way of childlike faith is not by our own power or mustered will. It is by your grace that we even believe! Thank you for lifting us when our hearts become heavy with this world. You are faithful to untangle the web of hopes and sorrows in our spirits because we can't sort it out. We trust what you say. We lean on your wisdom. Reveal to us more of yourself as we wait silently before you to hear about your will and to enjoy your love. Help us to have discipline to tune out distractions and to put other good things aside just to wait before you. Draw near to us. Thank you that you want to spend time with us. We trust and celebrate in our inheritance, because all your promises are yes and amen.

Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few. Ecclesiastes 5:2
