You Knew Him

That old shadow,

rests his cold hand

on the shoulder

There, nodding

at the scattering

of warm voices

and eyes that look

with blindness

at the shuffle

of feet retreating

hands recoiling

love dissi

But you, Lord, you pour

your oil of gladness

softening these calluses

and cuts

from the callous

You knew him

and you kept on

loving anyway

He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. John 1:11
